Performance Art

I work with the intention to create connection, share a personal story, and use my body as the greatest artistic medium. Here are a few examples of my work.

Performance art

See Evil. Hear Evil. Speak Evil. 2021

This is an excerpt from the 30 minute performance piece. It was performed in September of 2021 on the campus of Wayne State University. The inspiration for this piece came from the prompting to create a chalk mural. Eager to use my body, I imagined the way a body might show up pressed against the ground from the other side. This created the connection to what is beneath.

Painting a Dance 2019

This is an excerpt from the performance at the Student Works Audition for the December Dance Concert in the Allessee Dance Theatre in Old Main at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. I used paint and very specific movements  on stretched canvas on ground to create the image of my face. I performed with live accompaniment by Dan Kozlowski playing Erik Satie’s “Gymnopedie 1.”

Move Past It/Under the Rug 2025

This performance art piece was performed by Renee L Dempsey on August 27th, 2025 in front of an intimate audience at the Henry Ford Centennial Library in Dearborn, MI for the TEAD ONE Memorial Resident Artist Show.
